Dreams come to us every night, several times, and from one view, offer 'free' information and guidance on how to approach, navigate and understand the varietous experiences of the soul's journey through life. The world of the imagination may be more real and valid than we have been taught, and certainly, it appears that dreams exist and take shape in what we can recognize as the imaginal realm. As Native American Iriquois dreamers put it, The Dream Worl is the Real World".
Projective work is based on the experience that dreams speak in the language of symbols, even though they sometimes also paint pictures of practical/literal situations in order to assist us to cope with waking life situations. Working with dreams is a recalling of the imaginative-creative capacity that exists within each one of us which seeks to relate to and learn from symbolic language. Because dreams speak the way they do, and because our cultural legacy is recently one of a materialist-scientific bent, we may have lost a large portion of the ability to understand life from a metaphorical and symbolic view. Working with dreams allows us to re-connect with this aspect of our depths and has been a largely over-looked area of great wisdom and learning into which we may again immerse ourselves through one on one and group work.
The benefit of group work comes from the diversity and multi-layered perspectives of the several particpants who attend meetings and workshops. It's like the old saying that two pairs of eyes are better than one. When a dream is shared in the respectful and supportive environment of Projective-style work (in which each person takes ownership of her/his projected ideas,thoughts,feelings and impressions) it becomes possible to draw upon a wide body of possiblilities around the meaning of the dreams and often, we get to the heart of the dream with a greater sense of ease in this way. Certainly, doing group work in this fashion tends to be exciting, fun, playful, caring and enriching.
